You enter the office of the Chatham Boat Company and you’re greeted by the sweetest dog I’ve ever encountered: Cappy, a silver lab.
“Cappy is Captain Justin’s dog. Cappy rides on the North Beach shuttle all summer long with the captain," said Molly Fedele. “Cappy has an Instagram page, too!”
Molly and her husband Todd bought the Chatham Boat Company and the Beachcomber Boat Tours two years ago.
“The changes have been minimal,” said Todd. They kept most of the staff and still offer all the services boat owners have learned to depend on for years.
“Any service your boat requires, we provide,” said Molly. “Custom projects, woodwork, fiberglass and engine installation along with storage, launching and hauling out. Boats go in and boats go out!” They are a Honda engine dealer and will soon be an Orion Boat dealer, too. They service both commercial fishing boats and recreational boats.
The Chatham Boat Company has always been the Beachcomber Seal Tours HQ, too. The tours are offered daily, four times a day. You may think the seal tours are just a tourist attraction, but “local people bring their guests on the seal tours,” said Molly. What a great idea! Reservations are required, and when you arrive about 30 to 20 minutes before departure time, you pay your fare then in person. The boat leaves from Ryder’s Cove (a ride there is provided), and the tour is about 90 minutes long.
One change at the CBC is their retail shop. The store continues to offer marine supplies, but now they have a great selection of gifts. “We’ve expanded the gift items quite a bit. Our daughter, Morgan Fedele, handles the marketing for the store. We still have everything you need for your boat ride: grab and go snacks, drinks, beach gear, you name it!” They welcome bikers on the rail trail to stop in, too!
They also operate and maintain the North Beach shuttle. “The shuttle leaves the fish pier from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, about every 15 minutes or so. No reservations required.”
This year, they sold pumpkins with proceeds benefiting the Boy Scouts, and Christmas trees for the same cause. Santa Claus himself also stopped by. Visitors took advantage of the retail shop for many on their holiday gift list.
Stop in the Chatham Boat Company today, check out the shop and inquire about a new boat while you’re there.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
