BOSTON – A little adversity wasn’t going to stop Logan Poulin from achieving his goal of becoming a champion.
After watching the referees wave off what would have been the game-tying goal in the opening minute of the third period, Poulin, the senior captain of Nauset’s boys hockey team, dug deep and netted a pair of goals to help lift the Warriors to a 4-1 victory over Medifeld in the Division 3 state final.
“We were lucky enough that the puck was squirting out and I was lucky to elevate the puck and get us going,” Poulin said of his first goal, which tied the game at 1 with 11:17 remaining. “We didn’t look back from there.”
Poulin was among the state’s most prolific goal scorers throughout his senior season. Often, he’d pick out a corner of the net and showcase his talent with lightning-fast shots that highlighted his accuracy.
His tying goal in the state final demonstrated his resilience, as he fought for multiple rebound attempts before finally finding the back of the net.
“I was talking to him about how it didn’t need to be a Logan Poulin prototypical snapshot or one of those nice, beautiful snipes he tends to have,” Nauset coach Connor Brickley said. “He’s a goal scorer through and through, and goal scorers find a way to score in a magnitude of ways.”
Junior Jake Eldredge and senior Colin Ward both tallied goals after Poulin opened the scoring, then Poulin put the finishing touches on the win with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
After leading the Warriors throughout the season, Poulin capped off his historic career by providing more heroics that ultimately helped lift the program to new heights.
“That first goal really sparked a flame,” said Brickley.
