Business Page: Ocean Edge Expands Holistic Retreat Offerings

by Elizabeth Van Wye

BREWSTER – Liza Bertini, the new retreat sales manager at Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club, wants to share the benefits of wellness programs year round on Cape Cod.
Inspired by her own decades-long journey and practice of physical and spiritual well-being, Bertini is overseeing a new series of year-round wellness retreats at the resort.
Bertini is focused on expanding holistic health and rejuvenation options at Ocean Edge for both leisure travelers and groups. A rotating schedule of pre-set retreats are available over select dates, along with the option of customizable and private retreats for leisure and corporate groups up to 400 in size.
"The Cape is a perfect place for a retreat...a transformative space, beautiful and quiet in the off season," she said. "And Ocean Edge has all the pieces in place, including a new 1,000-square-foot infrared studio for hot yoga, a spa, an amazing property and a dedicated team who knows how to execute an event."
Bertini's background includes more than two decades of experience in wellness programming, including serving as director of schools at Kripalu's Center for Yoga and Health. Before that, as founder of Devotion Yoga and Wellness, she established five locations offering long-running yoga teacher training. Her personal journey and practice convinced her that in a time of turmoil, "the world needs this offering more than ever."
First up in the retreat series is a multi-day experience focused on transitions and resilience. Led by Izzy Lenihan, a life, career and wellness coach, the retreat is scheduled for March 28 to 30. Titled "Tides of Change," the sessions are designed to explore powerful self-reflection and mindfulness practices, according to Bertini.
"It will provide tools to navigate life's transitions with clarity and grace for a renewed sense of purpose," she wrote.
The impetus for the new series came from guest input, according to Suzanne Corcoran, the resort's owner. "We've been testing wellness programming with our guests over the past year," she said. "The overwhelmingly positive response inspired a full expansion of our wellness offerings."
The expansion of Ocean Edge's wellness programs includes a newly constructed optional infrared heat studio as well as expanded healthy dining options and the renovation of the Old Sea Pines Inn, renamed The Charm, for adult-only accommodation.
In addition to bringing in well-known teachers from off Cape, Bertini is working with a team of local teachers to create retreats through the winter. "It's great to be able to bring back local talent in the off season," she said.
Other upcoming retreats include, in April, the “Power of Pilates: Functional Movement for Lifelong Vitality” with Susannah van de Wende and Susan Vose. Also in April will be “Clearing for Clarity: A Weekend Retreat with Melanie Mattison.” A “Calm, Soothe, Renew: A Mother's Day Restorative Yoga Retreat” with Tam Terry is offered in May.
In addition to programming retreats, the resort is welcoming private retreats, including getaways for friend groups as well as corporate or executive retreats. Some of the possible themes include traditional yoga and meditation retreats as well as exploring health issues like bone health, nutrition, grief and sober-curious programming.
