ORLEANS – For some hockey players, scoring a hat trick would be a dream come true. For Logan Poulin, it’s just another day at the rink.
The Nauset senior from Truro tallied hat tricks in back-to-back games, helping to lift the Warriors to a 7-1 win over Martha’s Vineyard on Feb. 5 and a 4-0 victory at Malden Catholic on Saturday.
Although Poulin is committed to play lacrosse at the University of Vermont, he has cemented himself as one of the state’s most prolific goal scorers. But he’s much more than a scorer — he’s proven to be a weapon in all phases of the game.
“The biggest thing Logan’s done the last couple years is round out his game,” Nauset coach Connor Brickley said. “When we first got him, he came in as the guy they said had a very heavy shot that would score a lot of goals.
“That’s what he was when he first came, but now he’s the guy that will go out in every situation and he’ll make his teammates better, he’ll defend hard, he’ll play 200 feet, he’ll play physical and he’ll play team-first hockey.”
While Poulin said he’s motivated to help lead the Warriors to a state title following last year’s 1-0 loss to Marblehead in the Division 3 state final, the senior said he’s also enjoying the opportunity to compete in front of his family and friends after beginning his high school career at Milton Academy.
“We’ve got a very good community here,” Poulin said. “I’ve been told the hockey team brings the community together a lot. That’s something we have a lot of pride in and it’s a great community to play for.”
