SANDWICH – Reign Stephens didn’t want his final high school football game to be a forgettable experience. So, the senior from Harwich delivered a performance he’ll never forget.

Stephens played a major role in helping Monomoy dominate St. John Paul II, 42-0, on Thanksgiving Eve as he closed out his career with a two-touchdown performance to help the Sharks pull away at Sandwich High School.

“I was just excited to play in front of my family and really show out in my last game,” said Stephens.

The senior tailback opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run to cap off Monomoy’s opening possession of the game. In the third quarter, he showed his breakaway speed when he popped loose for a 19-yard rushing score.

It was the perfect ending to a final season that saw the Sharks battle injuries and obstacles throughout the fall.

“This feels great,” Stephens said. “We had our ups and downs this season against some really tough teams, but we played every down and every game and I’m really happy with the way we finished our season.”

Stephens said he hopes the program will continue to make strides even after he graduates from Monomoy.

“I love every single one of these guys on this team and I hope that we can continue to improve,” he said.
