HARWICH – Monomoy senior Dillon Chapman wanted to share the moment with his teammates.
The Harwich resident capped off his illustrious career with another big performance, rushing for 143 yards and a touchdown to help lead the Sharks to a 32-0 victory over St. John Paul II on Thanksgiving Day in Harwich.
As much as Chapman helped anchor Monomoy’s ground game, it was an unselfish act that showcased just how much his teammates mean to him.
“Dillon broke off a 60-yard run and Sean Needham, our guard, was pulling around to block for him,” Monomoy coach Rob Sliney said. “They ran all the way to the end zone and right before the end zone, Dillon handed the ball off to Sean so he was able to score the touchdown instead.”
It was a surprising — but fitting — act of unselfishness by Chapman, who has been an integral part of Monomoy’s football program since he enrolled at the school. On Thursday, he anchored the Sharks’ rushing attack alongside fellow senior Logan Crevier, who added two rushing scores.
“They were phenomenal,” Sliney said of the senior backs. “They did their job exactly the way they are expected to. They ran hard and ran the plays to perfection. It was nice to get them a lot of touches and get them both in the end zone.”
