CHATHAM – Santa has arrived in town (see page 17), which means that Christmas by the Sea can’t be far behind.
The annual holiday stroll takes place the weekend of Dec. 13 to 15, beginning Friday with the annual Children’s Light Parade at 5:30 p.m. Santa will lead the procession from the community center to Sears Park, at the corner of Main and Seaview streets, where there will be caroling, Scott Hamilton’s annual reading of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” and the lighting of the town tree at 5:45 p.m.
Sponsored by the Chatham Chamber of Commerce and Merchants Association, the holiday events continue through the weekend, with open houses at downtown shops and activities for both kids and adults.
After the tree lighting ceremony Friday, Main Street shops will be open, many featuring raffles, sales and holiday refreshments. Enjoy horse and carriage rides at the town offices from 6 to 9 p.m., and visit with Santa at his workshop (the downtown information booth).
Saturday begins with Breakfast with Santa at the Wild Goose Tavern; there are two seatings, at 8 and 10 a.m. The event sells out fast, so visit Chathaminfo.com to find out if tickets are still available.
At 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, the Chatham Orpheum Theater will screen “The Grinch.” Tickets are available at the Orpheum box office and website.
Shops will be open along Main Street all day, and Santa will return to his workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Spend the day downtown and enjoy live entertainment as well as shopping.
Shops remain open on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Special limited edition Chatham Christmas merchandise, including hats and tote bags, are also available at Chatham Village Market and the Chatham Clothing Bar.
