BREWSTER – The Sargent family’s new home represents a dream come true.
“So many people were involved in making our dream a reality,” said Bernalynn Sargent. “More than wood and nails went into making this house. It involved selflessness and community to turn a house into a home.”
She spoke at a dedication ceremony on Oct. 19 for two homes — including the Sargents’ — built on Phoebe Way by Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod. Bernalynn was there with her husband, Ryan, and their two children. The owner of the second home asked that their name and image not be published.
“I stand here today filled with gratitude and joy to express my sincerest thanks,” Bernalynn said at the Habitat event. “When we received that call to come into the office to sign more paperwork, I thought, ‘As if the 600-page novel I turned in wasn’t enough.’ However, as soon as we walked through the doors, many words of congratulations filled the room, and tears of joy filled my eyes. A huge wave of relief overcame me realizing that my family and I would have our own home.”
Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has built over 180 affordable homes on Cape Cod since its founding in 1988.
“It has been a wonderful experience taking part in building our home, and working and learning alongside all those amazing volunteers,” Bernalynn said. “The volunteers have shown great mentorship and a great sense of humor. HFH of Cape Cod has done so much for our community.”
As the Sargents thanked volunteers, employees, sponsors and donors, Bernalynn spoke of joining the cause.
“It has been inspiring this past year; I’ve been trying to give back to HFH of Cape Cod. I have volunteered at a few fundraising events. My next volunteer service for HFH of Cape Cod consists of being the net coordinator for the upcoming Dennis build.”
