Cape Tech, Monomoy And Nauset Set For Thanksgiving Football

by Brad Joyal

Get the turkey ready and prepare those potatoes and stuffing, but don’t forget to leave some room for some Thanksgiving pigskin.

All three of the local schools are in action this week against their Thanksgiving football rivals, with Monomoy meeting St. John Paul II on Wednesday night before Cape Cod Tech and Nauset close out their respective seasons Thursday morning.

Cape Tech will travel to Upper Cape Tech for a 10 a.m. kickoff Thursday morning, while Nauset will host Dennis-Yarmouth at the same time in North Eastham.

It’s the fifth Thanksgiving contest between Monomoy (3-7) and JP II (3-7), but the teams are no stranger to each other after meeting Oct. 27, when the Sharks earned a 20-14 victory in Harwich. Monomoy hosted last year’s Thanksgiving game and earned an 8-0 win to even the Thanksgiving series to 2-2 since it began in 2018.

This year’s game is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sandwich High School.

Cape Tech (3-6) is looking to avenge last year’s 28-6 loss in this year’s meeting against Upper Cape Tech (1-9). The Crusaders hold a 5-7 record against the Rams in Thanksgiving games dating back to 2010.

Up in North Eastham, Nauset (2-7) is looking to snap a three-game losing skid against D-Y (6-3) in the Chowder Bowl. The Dolphins hold a 20-6 advantage in 26 Thanksgiving meetings, and they have earned five straight wins over the Warriors (including two during the 2021 Fall II season) since Nauset captured the 2018 Chowder Bowl.
