Kathleen Marie (Wall) Barnes

Kathleen Marie (Wall) Barnes of Harwich Port, MA, formerly of Barre VT, and Watertown, Cheshire and Hebron, CT, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
Kathleen was born to Franklyn and Marie Wall on April 8, 1935, in Watertown, CT. Loving wife of Jack (John Joseph) Barnes (1932-2023) for 65 years, mother, grandmother, sister (Franklyn Wall (1936-2017), and aunt, she is survived by her sister, Barbara Lukos, her five children (Kristine Marie Barnes Kirkaldy (Andrew) of Middlebury, VT; Mary Alicia Barnes ( Russell Wright) of Natick, MA; Timothy John Barnes (Tamara) of Portland, CT; Matthew Aaron Barnes (Rachel) of Chatham, MA; and Mark Andrew Barnes (Ericka) of Middletown, CT; and her ten grandchildren (Connor, Kaitlyn, Kiera, Ryan, Jacki, Sage, Cathleen, Liam, Fiona, and Jacklyn); and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. After graduating from Connecticut Teachers College, Kathleen occasionally took on roles as a teacher and artisan but mainly devoted her life to supporting her family.
She was an avid gardener, quilter, seamstress, and cook. She enjoyed her husband Jack’s and the family’s various camping and boating adventures while providing delicious food, occasional bandaids, and patience. Kathleen and Jack traveled to numerous states and ventured abroad to Germany and Ireland. In later years, she stayed closer to home, visiting Jack in an Alzheimer’s long-term facility and tending to her treasured vegetable and flower gardens.
A celebration of life will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham, Mass., on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. Donations in Kathleen’s memory, a way to honor her life and legacy may be made to Cape Cod Alzheimer’s Family Support Center in Brewster (www.alzfamilysupport.org), Association to Preserve Cape Cod https://apcc.org/get-involved/donate, or Harwich Conservation Trust (https://harwichconservationtrust.org).
