Captain Len Greiner always wanted to entertain guests on the water. He told us on a recent cruise that to finally realize his dream this year has been incredible. Greiner has been fishing, sailing and boating on the sea for decades. He started fishing with his dad as a child, is a Coast Guard-licensed master, graduate of Mass Maritime, was in the U.S. Navy Reserve, was a U.S. Merchant Marine and has over three decades as a charter boat captain and commercial fisherman out of Harwich Port. And oh boy, he has stories to tell! When you take a cruise on the White Shark pontoon boat, he entertains you as you enjoy the ocean breezes and stunning vistas of Saquatucket Harbor.
This summer, Greiner did three cruises a day: the afternoon ice cream cruise, an evening harbor one and the sunset/twilight cruise. This fall he will do at least one cruise a day until the Columbus Day weekend. Fares are $25 for adults, $20 for 18 years old and younger and senior citizens, and toddlers 2 and under are free. The boat is also available for private cruises. The boat can take 45 passengers at a time. There’s a cash bar with beer, wine and cocktails, and the vessel is fully enclosed. You can book online or even go spontaneously by just showing up at the gangplank and paying there if there’s room. The vessel is docked along the seawall in the southeast corner of the parking lot near the boat ramp. Booking ahead guarantees your spot!  Plus this time of year, departure times may change so be sure to check the website or call before you head to the harbor. Cruises typically last about an hour and a half.
The Cape Cod Chronicle staff took the ice cream cruise recently and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Capt. Greiner is very entertaining, telling us about points of interest along the way. The boat is very comfortable, too. Greiner has five children, and the day we went his son was piloting the vessel and his daughter was behind the bar.
“It was so fun and festive,” said Melissa De La Vega, Chronicle ad sales representative.  “And the ice cream was delicious!“
This fall why not head on down to the harbor and take a spin on the White Shark?
