Mary Cornelia Ryan Carroll
On Sunday July 21, 2024 Mary Cornelia Ryan Carroll passed away unexpectedly of pulmonary complications. She was surrounded by her husband and family.
“Connie” was born in Providence, RI on January 1, 1939. She received a traditional Catholic education at Elmhurst Academy and graduated in 1957. After Elmhurst, she continued her studies at Bryant College.
After a fortuitous meeting, Connie and Dan fell in love and married in 1958. The family grew steadily over the next decade and they brought five children into the world. Economic opportunities led the young family to settle in Barrington, Illinois. During their life in Illinois, Connie was an active volunteer in the community and at St. Anne’s School. Her community efforts included organizing blood drives for Red Cross and regular visits to patients at Elgin State Hospital. At St. Anne’s she was a member of the Women’s Club, chaperoned class trips, taught art appreciation, and tutored students.
The family returned to New England in 1978 and Connie and Dan raised their family in Harwich Port, MA. She continued to volunteer in the local community and take care of her extended family. She was devoted to her family and always motivated to spend time with ailing family members, relatives, and friends. She was kind, loving, and made friends easily.
She was a volunteer at Cape Cod Hospital for over 10 years. As patients and visitors entered the lobby, they were greeted by her warm smile and gracious personality. She used her wit and good spirit to make people feel at ease during difficult times.
She loved the outdoors and spent time sailing and taking long walks with Dan. During summers, she spent wonderful days watching over her family, her friend’s children, and neighborhood kids as they played on the beach. She excelled at cooking for the multitudes of visiting friends and family. She had a genuine sense of adventure. She traveled extensively, and loved the natural world and the great cities. In summer months, she prized her time with friends at “Art in the Park” in Harwich Port.
Connie Carroll is survived by her husband Daniel; her children and their spouses Timothy, Michael (Naoko), Jennifer, and Mark (Doris). She was preceded in death by her mother Helen Daniels Ryan, father Timothy Burke Ryan, aunt Marie Daniels, uncles Ralph and Irving Daniels, her brothers Stephen and Tim, sister Agnes (Candy), son Daniel, and infant grandson Maximillian.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday Sept 18, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:30 am at Chapman Funeral Home, 678 Main St, Harwich, MA 02645. A Funeral Mass will follow at Holy Trinity Church, 246 Main St (Rte 28) W. Harwich, MA at 11:00 am.
