Residents, Visitors Turn Out In Numbers For Orleans Police’s Annual Block Party

by Ryan Bray

ORLEANS – Main Street is one of the biggest throughways for traffic downtown. But for a few hours last week, the sound of passing vehicles were replaced by music, mingling and laughter.
The Orleans Police Department has been hosting its annual block party for more than 20 years as a way to gather with residents and visitors and send summer off on a high note. On Aug. 21, people filled Main Street between Route 6A and Route 28, stopping for hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks and visiting the various vendors and community members on hand.
Among the biggest attractions were the classic cars lining the far end of Main Street toward Route 28. Emergency vehicles such as fire engines, SWAT vehicles and police motorcycles were also a big hit, especially for the event’s youngest attendees. The CG36500 lifesaving boat even made an appearance.
