Robert Ernest Starkweather Jr, 84, of Chatham, MA, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and caring uncle. A wonderful friend to all who knew him, died peacefully August 22, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Robert was born in Hyannis, MA on December 12, 1939. Bob is predeceased by the love of his life and beautiful wife of 50 years Maureen Spellman Starkweather. Robert was the son of the late Robert Ernest Starkweather Sr. and Esther Pauline Johnson Starkweather and brother to Don Vernon Starkweather. Also, his beloved Aunt Beverly Johnson of Harwich, MA and Princeton, ME and her children Jouette, Chris, Timmy, Billy Joe also of Princeton ME. In addition, his niece Cassandra Guerrini of Haverhill, MA.

Robert “Bob” is survived by his son Jonathan Starkweather and his wife Alyssa Kendrick Starkweather of Chatham, MA and his son Daniel Starkweather of AZ. His granddaughters Emma and Abby Starkweather, step-grandfather to Beau Peterson and his wife Amy and great- grandfather to Ellie Peterson, Bother-in-law Brian Spellman and his wife Connie of Stoneham, MA. Nieces Kristin, Katrina, Veronika, Michelle and her husband Bruce, Stasia, Sophia, Ariana. Cousins Cindy and her husband Bert, Janeen and partner Jim Layte, Dean and his partner Cindy Bailey.

At the age of 16 he survived a terrible plane crash at the Chatham airport on August 11,1956. His strength and determination helped him overcome his injuries and he was able to walk again despite all of his doctor's diagnosis. Bob then graduated in 1958 from Chatham High School. At the age of 24, Bob was proud and honored to become a member as a Freemason at the Saint Martin's Lodge in Chatham, MA for 61 years.

Bob wore many hats from, TV/Radio repair to Supervisor at the Chatham Transfer Station for many years and the job he truly loved was working at Nausett Inc. in Eastham helping people with special needs.

Bob loved his family and friends more than anything else. He enjoyed spending time with them camping on North Beach. Friends enjoyed Bob's self-made bar in his basement and attending their epic parties. Bob and Maureen cherished the times they traveled abroad and spending time at "picnic" with their cherished friends.

He cherished all the times he spent with his best friend Don St. Pierre and wife Hannah. Bob loved telling stories and especially with anything related to World War II.

Bob spent many of times recovering at Liberty Commons in Chatham, MA. So much that he called it his second home. Bob touched many hearts while there and made many friends. He loved you all and we his family can’t thank you enough for all the excellent care and love you gave him over the years.

Visiting hours will be from 4pm to 7pm Wednesday August 28, 2024 at Doane Beal & Ames 260 Main St. West Harwich, MA 02671. In addition, light food and beverage will be served.
