August 14, 2024

Donald C. “Donnie” Blakeley, 64, of Harwich, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on July 21, 2024. Born on September 23, 1959, in Marlborough, Massachusetts, Donnie was the eldest of four children. He was the beloved son of Jane V. (Stone) Blakeley and the late Donald W. Blakeley. He is survived by his brother, Steve Blakeley (Reenie), his sister, Brenda Weeks (Kenny), his nieces, Addie and Taylor, his nephew Spencer his uncle, Bob Stone, and several loving aunts and cousins. He was recently predeceased by his brother, Rick Blakeley (Dan). Donnie was a devoted father to his son, Christian, and a loving stepfather to Cameron Perry and Corey Frigo. They were the pride and joy of his life.

A longtime resident of Harwich, Donnie graduated from Harwich High School in 1977 and proceeded to study at UMASS Amherst. He had a passion for hockey which continued beyond his school years, as he played in various community leagues. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, never missing a race, and always keeping everyone who would listen, informed with the latest on races and teams. Donnie loved working outside and did so for his entire career. He was employed at many golf courses across Cape Cod, getting the grounds ready for even the earliest golfers. He continued the outdoor work he loved after retiring, with different tree and landscape companies. One of his favorite jobs was at Thacher’s Cranberry Bogs.

Donnie was a pillar of hope and support in the Harwich community, through his active involvement in various Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) groups. Over the years, he found steadfast strength and support within the program, which navigated him through his darkest days and guided him back to brighter times. In turn, he dedicated his life to giving back by consistently offering support and guidance to those in need. Donnie’s commitment to helping others and his vibrant personality left a mark on everyone he met and won’t be forgotten. He was often referred to as the “beacon” whom many could always count on to be there.

Donnie had an incredible ability to lift the energy in any room he entered. His presence was powerful, yet always positive, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. He lived by the mantra, “Just do the day!” and embodied this philosophy. Despite facing numerous health complications, Donnie committed to attending meetings, often going to three a day for the past ten years. His dedication to helping others was truly remarkable.

Donnie will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering support for others will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
