HARWICH – The Harwich Historical Society will hold two walking tours through Harwich Center in August providing an opportunity for participants to learn details about the village’s historic structures and the families who lived there.

The fact-filled 90-minute tours will be led by former State Senator Paul Doane, who has called Harwich his home town for more than 80 years. It’s a chance for both residents and visitors to enjoy a leisurely stroll through the historic town center, visiting the sites of important buildings, including Pine Grove Seminary, Exchange Hall, South Meeting House and the Broadbrooks block, said Doane.

“You will also discover the families that engineered its dynamic activity — Underwood, Snow, Brooks and Chase. You will learn of the town’s important historic political issues, along with its earliest beginnings and marvel at its many nationwide contributions,” Doane said.

The tours begin at the Brooks Academy parking lot at 2 p.m. on two Saturday, Aug. 3 and Aug.17. The price of the tour is $10 and tickets are available for purchase on the day of the walk or in advance at fareharbor.com/harwichhistoricalsociety.
