First-year Anglers Manager Sheetinger Resigns, Beattie Takes Over On Interim Basis

CHATHAM – For the second consecutive season, the Chatham Anglers will finish their season with an interim manager.

The club announced late Wednesday night that first-year skipper Jeremy “Sheets” Sheetinger resigned as Anglers manager effective immediately. Sheetinger replaced Tom Holliday, who cited health reasons for his decision to resign July 11, 2023.

“This appointment, time commitment and family strain has proved to be too much for my household,” Sheetinger wrote in his resignation letter. “I have been fighting this for the past few weeks but with my daughter, my wife being alone back home without any help on top of issues arising within our standing home, I have to put down the baseball hat and be there as a husband and father.”

Sheetinger helped turn the Anglers around in his first year in Chatham. The team currently sits in second place in the East Division with a 16-15 record.

Chatham’s pitching coach Eric Beattie, who managed Hyannis on an interim basis in 2022 before being hired to lead the Harbor Hawks last summer, has been named interim manager for the rest of the season. Beattie received widespread support from the baseball community on social media after Hyannis announced it was letting him go at the end of last season.

“Sheets’ goal in joining the Anglers were to instill a spirit of joy in playing winning baseball while further integrating the team as a positive force within the community,” Anglers general manager Mike Geylin wrote in the team’s statement. “The success on the field as well as the actions his coaching staff and players exhibited during all the community activities in which they enthusiastically participated are evidence of his success.
