Crow's Pond Landing Reopened
CHATHAM -- The Crow's Pond town landing reopened Wednesday after mitigation of a diesel fuel spill.
According to a press release from the town, public works crews dug out about 43 cubic yards of contaminated soil from an area approximately 60 feet deep, five to eight feet wide and two to four feet deep from the unpaved road leading to the landing. The material is being stores at the transfer station pending transportation to an off-Cape facility for disposal. Officials estimate that more than 10 gallons of diesel fuel was released.
The excavation was backfilled and the landing reopened. The spill occurred more than 25 feet from the boat ramp and there was no sign of fuel in in the water
The source of the fuel spill remains unknown. Officials are asking that anyone with information on the origin of the spill contact the fire department at 508-945-2323 or the police department's non-emergency line at 508-945-1213.
