Vermont Motorist Faces Weapons Charges After Alleged Road Rage

WEST CHATHAM -- A Vermont man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly threatened another motorist with a handgun while driving on Route 28 in West Chatham.

Police received a call shortly after 4 p.m. from a man who claimed that he and his family had been threatened by another driver who had a handgun. The alleged victim provided police with a description of the suspect and his vehicle, and Chatham police spotted him a short time later.

"Upon a traffic stop, the vehicle operator was arrested, and a loaded Glock 19 handgun was recovered from the vehicle," a police statement reads.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Tracy E. Douse of St. Johnsbury, Vt., was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a large capacity feeding device, illegal possession of ammunition and disorderly conduct. He was to be arraigned Wednesday in Orleans District Court.
