The Day Sailer North American Championship hosted by the Chatham, Orleans and Stage Harbor Yacht Clubs as well as Pleasant Bay Community Boating is set to return with a junior regatta on July 24, followed by the championship regatta July 25 to 27 on Pleasant Bay.

This marks the 63rd championship regatta for the classic one-design fiberglass racing boat that dates back to 1956 when it was created by famed boat designers Uffa Fox and George O’Day. Twenty-seven boats will compete in the championship, with local sailors squaring off against sailors from across the nation, including California, Florida, Ohio, Virginia and Maryland.

It will be the fourth time Pleasant Bay has hosted the championship and the first time since 2015. Pleasant Bay also hosted the event in 1979 and ‘85.

Chatham Yacht Club Regatta

The 103rd Chatham Yacht Club regatta will be held Aug. 3 and 4 and feature approximately 130 boats with sailors of all ages. Most of the participants will hail from local sailing clubs and they will compete in Optimists (small boats for younger sailors), 420s (Olympic and collegiate sailing training boats), Lasers (singlehanded) and Sunfish (typically singlehanded).

The regatta will also include classic wooden Beetle Cats, fiberglass catboats and Baybirds, with the latter being the boats that were used during the first CYC regatta held in 1921.
