Athlete Of The Week: Mike Mancini

ORLEANS – Although the Orleans Firebirds have gotten off to a slow start in the Cape League season, a few members of the team have showcased their talent with strong individual results.

James Madison University second baseman Mike Mancini has done his part. The Endwell, N.Y. native ranks second on the team in batting average (.225) and on base percentage (.273) and leads the Firebirds with a .450 slugging percentage.

Mancini was especially good this past week. In his past five games, he led Orleans in numerous hitting categories, including batting average (.278) and RBIs (4). He has two triples and is the only Firebirds with a home run during that stretch.

The talented JMU infielder will look to build on his recent success as the Firebirds work to overcome their 3-10 start to the season.
