Cape Cod Baseball League Begins Saturday

The stage is set and the teams are ready. All that’s left to do is play ball.

The Cape Cod Baseball League is set to begin its 101st season on Saturday when all 10 teams take part in opening day games. All four of the Lower Cape’s teams will begin on the road, with Harwich traveling to Cotuit (5 p.m.), Brewster at Yarmouth-Dennis (5 p.m.), Orleans at Bourne (6 p.m.) and Chatham at Wareham at 6 p.m.

The Orleans-Bourne contest is a rematch of last year’s championship series, which saw Bourne defend its title with a 2-1 series victory over Orleans. The Firebirds captured the East Division championship and reached the league championship for the first time since 2013.

Although plenty has remained the same from previous Cape League seasons, the Chatham Anglers have undergone a change in leadership. First-year manager Jeremy Sheetinger takes over in the dugout after replacing Tom Holliday, who stepped down in July last summer.

Sheetinger and the Anglers will open their home schedule against Yarmouth-Dennis at 7 p.m. Sunday at Veterans Field. Brewster welcomes Bourne to Stony Brook Field at 5 p.m. Sunday, Harwich will host Hyannis in its home opener at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Whitehouse Field, and Orleans will face Cotuit in its home opener at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Eldredge Park.

On July 27, the Cape League will host its All-Star Game and Home Run Derby at Guv Fuller Field in Falmouth. The league’s playoffs begin Aug. 6, with the championship series scheduled to start on Aug. 10.
