HARWICH – Moments after Karah Deveau scored to give Monomoy a 3-2 lead early in the second quarter of Friday’s Division 5 first-round matchup against Tyngsborough, there was a pause in the game as the referees retrieved the ball and brought it to the Sharks’ sideline.

Deveau, a senior from Harwich, looked on in confusion.

The goal marked Deveau’s 200th career goal and helped spark a five-goal effort that ultimately led Monomoy to a 10-6 victory over Tyngsborough.

“I actually didn’t know, so I was really confused,” Deveau said. “It feels really good because I’ve been playing lacrosse since sixth grade.”

Deveau has been an impact player since she arrived at Monomoy. She made a difference by not only being a prolific goal scorer but also a leader her teammates could count on.

While reaching 200 goals adds to Deveau’s storied career accomplishments, Monomoy coach Brendan Purcell said it hardly tells the whole story of just how much the senior has meant to the program.

“I think it’s a symbol of the mark she’ll leave on the program, but it definitely doesn’t scratch the surface of the mark she’ll leave,” Purcell said. “She leaves a lot in her character and leadership and the way the girls look up to her. Achieving her 200th goal shows how much she’s meant for the program, and we’re going to miss her in a lot of ways.”
