Golf, Tennis Tournaments Begin, Other Teams Await Seedings

After two months of regular season competition, it’s now win-or-go-home for the Lower Cape’s playoff-bound teams.

The Monomoy and Nauset girls golf teams began postseason play Tuesday at the MIAA South sectional tournament at Maplegate Country Club in Bellingham, with the top three finishers advancing to the state final set for Monday at Ledges Golf Club in South Hadley.

Other local teams were awaiting to learn their state tournament seedings at the time of The Chronicle’s deadline. Baseball and softball brackets were scheduled to be released at 11 a.m. Wednesday, while boys and girls lacrosse were slated for a 2 p.m. release on Wednesday. Nauset (14-6) was ranked No. 20 in the final Division 3 baseball power rankings released on Friday, while Monomoy (10-9) was ranked No. 30 in Division 4. In Division 5, Cape Cod Tech (12-7) was ranked No. 35 in Friday’s rankings, which are used to help determine seedings.

The Monomoy softball team (17-1) was ranked No. 22 in the Friday’s Division 4 power rankings, while Nauset (7-12) and Cape Tech (4-13) failed to qualify for the Division 3 and Division 5 tournaments, respectively.

Nauset (8-9) was ranked No. 6 in the Division 3 boys lacrosse rankings released Friday, Monomoy (15-3) was No. 21 in Division 4 and Cape Tech’s season ended with a 1-17 record. The Nauset girls lacrosse team (10-8) was No. 10 in Friday’s Division 3 rankings, and Monomoy (11-7) was No. 14 in Friday’s Division 4 rankings.

The Nauset boys and girls tennis teams both qualified for the postseason. The boys tennis team (11-5) finished No. 22 in Friday’s Division 3 rankings, and the girls (7-9) were ranked No. 31. At Monomoy, the boys (12-6) finished No. 13 in Division 4 and the girls (14-4) were No. 10.

Tennis tournaments kicked off Wednesday, with Monomoy hosting No. 20 Rockport at 3 p.m. at Brooks Park and the Sharks girls hosting No. 23 Rockport immediately after. The Nauset girls hosted No. 34 Whitinsville Christian at 4 p.m. Wednesday in a Division 3 preliminary-round match, while the Warriors boys will visit Wakefield for a first-round tilt (Date/time TBA).
