Rose Wins Monomoy School Committee Seat In Harwich Election

HARWICH – Bre A. Rose was elected to a three-year term on the Monomoy Regional School Committee in the annual town election on Tuesday.
Voter turnout was extremely light, only 7 percent of registered voters cast ballots. Rose received 417 votes to Ann Marie Varella’s 348 votes.
“I am ready to start the collaboration with the school committee,” Rose said when reached by The Chronicle.
Select Board member Peter Piekarski, elected to an unexpired term on the board on April 9, was unopposed for the three-year term on the ballot, and was returned to office with 689 votes.
Voters approved a $2.5 million debt exclusion that will provide funds for renovating and reconstructing the exterior siding and trim to the Monomoy Regional Middle School in Chatham. Votes approved the ballot question on a 541-237 vote.
Four candidates ran for three seats on the Brooks Free Library board of trustees. Incumbents Joan McCarty and Jeannie Wheeler were re-elected, with Wheeler receiving 561 and McCarty garnering 519 votes. Newcomer Patricia Murray won the third seat with 486 votes over Lynn Budell, who received 251 votes.
Incumbent Noreen Donahue was re-elected to another three-year term on the water/wastewater commission with 645 votes, Two write-in candidates sought the seat of outgoing commissioner Gary Carreiro. Robert Young was the winner with 131 votes over Richard “Val” Peter, who received 23 votes.
Moderator Michael Ford was elected to another three-year term with 725 votes, and Arthur Bodin was re-elected to a five-year term on the housing authority with 633 votes.
In all, 811 voters cast ballots, just 7 percent of the 11,759 registered voters.
