Veterans Remembered In Brewster
BREWSTER – Members of the community joined town officials on Monday to honor veterans and hear from guest speakers at the fire department and commemorate local heroes outside the council on aging.
David Whitney, select board chair, hosted the ceremony with guest speakers Father John Dalton and Tom Wasierski. After remarks and a blessing from Father Dalton, Wasierski shared his experience of service after enlisting in 2018 to continue his education in paramedic school. After completing his schooling, Wasierski chose to stay an active member of the National Guard.
“This new opportunity gave me the ability and training to save lives and make a difference in my civilian services,” he said. He continued training and graduated as a combat medic stationed in Rhode Island. Now five years later, Wasierski is still serving as part of the Rhode Island National Guard and has worked as a Brewster firefighter and paramedic for over two years.
To end the ceremony, Brian Murphy, a Vietnam veteran, and Eugene Ryone, a World War II veteran, were honored with name plaques on the VFW memorial outside the council on aging.
