CHATHAM – Incumbents Cory Metters and Dean Nicastro were comfortably re-elected to their fourth terms on the select board in Thursday’s annual town election.

Two ballot questions seeking Proposition 2½ overrides also passed; however, both had failed to get the necessary two-thirds majority to pass at Monday’s annual town meeting.

The select board seats were the only contested races on the ballot. Metters received the highest number of votes at 824, followed by Nicastro with 716 and challenger Brian Phillips with 291, according to preliminary results.

Moderator William Litchfield won another three-year term with 889 votes, and Brad Schiff will be the town’s newest representative on the Monomoy Regional School District School Committee with 831 votes. Alan Mowry was re-elected to the housing authority with 809 votes.

Question one, which sought $2.9 million to complete improvements at the transfer station, won at the ballot box 608-401. The second question asked voters to exempt $11.4 million in borrowing for five waterfront infrastructure projects. It prevailed 604-407.

A total of 1,04 voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s election, 17 percent of those registered.
