Grady Consulting, LLC is a family owned and operated professional civil engineering, land surveying and landscape architecture company that has been serving the South Shore and Cape Cod and beyond since 1998.
Rick, Kevin, and Darren Grady are brothers who grew up playing hockey in Kingston. They each received civil engineering degrees from Northeastern University and are all principal engineers, state-certified soil evaluators, and Title 5 septic system inspectors.
“I had gone to a vo-tech carpenter program in high school and my parents told me if I went to college, they wouldn’t charge me room and board,” Rick Grady said on starting the family business back in 1998. “So I went to Northeastern. I was doing some work on my boss’ house on the weekends at the time and my next younger brother Kevin came to help me. We all graduated from Northeastern and went into business together.”
The Grady Consulting staff includes professional land surveyors, civil engineers, project managers and technical designers. They implement a "Field to Finish" workflow to streamline the process of surveying, design and permitting.
“I would say probably about a third of our business is from homeowners,” Grady said. “When somebody wants to put an addition on their home or put a pool in their yard or they might have wetlands on their property, they go to town hall and town hall tells them to go find a surveyor and engineer and get some plans drawn up. That’s where we come in. We go survey the land, draw up some plans of whatever they might want to improve their property with.”
What started out in Kingston evolved into recently opening an office on Main Street in Orleans after hiring Keith Silva.
“We hired Keith from Truro and he was commuting like a rock star up to Kingston all last winter. I promised him when we hired him that Orleans could be a good location for us,” said Grady. “We were already doing a fair amount of work in the area. It has been very strategic and good to have Keith down here. And we are also hoping to find other staff in the area.”
The team at Grady Consulting typically surveys ADU (accessory dwelling units) projects each week and has also been heavily involved with sewer expansion on the Cape.
“We’ve probably surveyed 200 miles of roadways on the Cape for sewer expansion projects,” Grady said. “Then there’s the areas that won’t be sewered so we get involved in innovative alternative technology and treatment systems.”
And Grady is loving the local Orleans community, saying their office on Main Street is a perfect fit.
“We love this location,” he said. “We looked at a lot of different spaces. I took a ride around town with Keith and said, ‘Wow this is busier down here in December than Kingston is!’ It is just a very organic extension of what we’re doing already in Kingston. Everybody in town hall has been very welcoming. We are also a part of the Chamber here and Judy has been great!”
Because Grady Consulting is a small company, clients are assured they will receive professional service and guidance from preliminary site planning to the permitting process and throughout the construction process.
