Minding Your Business- 400 East Restaurant and Bar
“It might not be the fanciest, but it is going to be great and you’re going to laugh and eat and leave fulfilled,” said Noah Rosen, the 400’s longtime bartender turned manager several years ago. “And if you don’t, we want to know so we can fix it because we take a lot of pride in what we do.”
When you dine at the 400 East restaurant you know without a doubt that you will be greeted with warmth and a smile, served a delicious meal, and return again and again because it feels like home. I know this for a fact because my parents are lifetime regulars here.
“I know Gail and Jeff,” Rosen proudly said. “They have a direct line to my phone. They are great people- love them! We take pride in knowing our regulars’ first names, their tendencies, what they like and what they don’t like. Any night of the week I can look at the bar and after 12 years here I generally know about 90 percent of the people sitting there.”
That is the vibe you can expect with a place that has been around as long as the folks at the 400 have been (in their location since 1989). It’s the type of place you will always run into someone you know and get to know a favorite bartender or server. There are even four employees who have collectively been at the 400 for 100 years combined!
“We know our customers; that is important to us. We have so many customers who come in to see specific employees or sit with a specific server. We make sure they get that. Personalizing the experience is very important because without them, the locals, we wouldn’t be here.”
At the 400, diners can expect the best comfort food in the area, in a space that can accommodate a lot of guests. With an extensive menu featuring fresh salads, appetizers, burgers, thin crust pizzas, pastas and fantastic entrees, there is always something for everyone.
The kitchen is filled with Caribbean influences from Jamaican, Haitian, Dominican and Puerto Rican flair so that has helped inspire their winter Caribbean specials (which run through the end of March).
In addition to that, the 400 has nightly specials that keep the regulars coming back again and again. To kick the work week off, the 400 features their sirloin special as well as meatloaf on Mondays. Tuesday through Thursday guests enjoy pizza and a beer deal and there is also the ultimate comfort food, pot roast, on Tuesdays. There is always a pasta special on Wednesdays, and the very popular prime rib night happens each week from Thursday through Saturday. Finally the Sunday night homestyle turkey dinner night with all of the fixings is a must-try!
Rosen said, “These are all classic comfort meals to get you through the week that fills you up and you’ll even have leftovers for tomorrow. Because we do have great portions.”
With a popular rewards loyalty program, take out options and call ahead seating, the crew at the 400 makes it a breeze to enjoy dining in or takeout seven days a week, all year long.
The 400 also can accommodate large parties and has a separate private function room that holds up to 65 guests. This type of space is a rare find in the Lower Cape restaurant scene and is the perfect venue for holiday parties, birthday parties and family get-togethers.
“People come here to eat, laugh and interact. I love my job right now and everything about it,” Rosen said.
