Doane, Hughes Named To Harwich Hall Of Fame
HARWICH – The select board last week named two residents to the town’s Hall of Fame.
Paul Doane and Peter Hughes were nominated for their service to the community and town government.
Nominees are individuals who have made a significant contribution to the history of the town. Suggestions must be reviewed and accepted by the select board.
Doane was recommended by Patti Smith. In her nomination, she wrote that Doane’s contributions to the town “are truly remarkable, spanning decades, touching countless lives, and leaving an enduring legacy. Whether through his selfless acts, steadfast volunteerism, or his drive to make Harwich a better place for all, Paul’s positive influence is both inspiring and immeasurable.”
Doane served as a state senator for four terms and has been a trustee to the Caleb Chase Fund since 1980, 30 years as chair. He is a former president of the Harwich Historical Society and a past president of the board of trustees of Pine Oak Village. He presently serves on the charter commission and the historic district and historical commission.
Hughes was nominated by Lou Urbano, who wrote in his nomination that since his arrival in Harwich in 1989, Hughes “has immersed himself in the governance of our town, including [serving as] a select board member for a total of 15 outstanding years. He seemed well suited to the task with his innate sense of humor and an ability to listen with attention to details.”
Hughes is a past president of the chamber of commerce and has served on the school committee and finance committee and as the town’s representative to the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
