HARWICH – After four seasons leading one of the Cape’s most consistently successful high school sports programs, Kyle Cappallo resigned as head coach of the Monomoy varsity field hockey team, he confirmed last week.
Cappallo said the resignation was a “tough decision, but coaching requires a considerable time commitment and given my existing personal obligations it was beginning to become more challenging for me.”
The move comes just a few weeks after Monomoy’s season concluded with a fifth consecutive trip to the semifinals of the MIAA Division 4 state tournament. Since Cappallo became head coach in 2022, the Sharks amassed a 50-11-11 regular season record and picked up 14 playoff wins that led to four semifinals and two championship game appearances.
“We appreciate all he has done for our program over the years and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” Monomoy Athletic Director Karen Guillemette said.
Cappallo also said he has an older daughter who plays collegiate field hockey who he had not been able to see play much this past season. He’ll continue coaching with the Cape Cod Field Hockey Club.
A search for Monomoy field hockey’s next head coach will be conducted after the holidays, Guillemette said.
