Joseph Scott Colby
December 03, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we share our beloved Joseph Scott Colby has passed away unexpectedly. Joseph was born on December 7, 2002 at Cape Cod Hospital and was raised in Chatham where he lived. He passed away at home on November 15, 2025.
Joseph, also known as Joe or Joey, was a graduate of Sturgis Charter Public School. After graduating, Joe eventually found his calling as a mechanic. Joe loved cars and working on projects so being a mechanic was a dream come true for him. Joe was employed by Copeland Subaru where he gained so much knowledge about the auto industry. Whether Joe was helping diagnose an issue with a car, taking a class to get certifications, or just changing an oil and rotating tires on a car, Joe knew he was making a difference in the lives of the customers. He especially enjoyed working alongside the best mechanics, who he also called his friends.
Outside of work, Joe enjoyed being with his family and friends, traveling, being at any beach on Cape Cod or on the Gulf Shore for hours at a time, fishing especially on the lake in his neighborhood, Spofford Lake in New Hampshire or anywhere in South Florida, and cheering and rooting for all New England sports teams (especially the Patriots!). Joe also liked going to the gym, running, golfing at any course, and gaming with family and friends. A great passion for Joe was cars. Any opportunity he had, he would work on his car or help others work on theirs. He especially loved just driving his car whether it was to car shows, racing it at the Seekonk Speedway or just going for drives.
Joe had a great joy for life! He was always known as being so friendly even as far back as pre-school. Joe had such a caring heart and would always go out of his way to love on, care for, and help everyone.
Joe is survived by his family; his father and mother,
Jeffrey and Lisa Colby, his brother, Joshua and sister, Faith. Joe is also survived by his grandparents, Robert and Helen Colby, many Aunts, Uncles, great Uncle, great Aunts, and many cousins, living locally on Cape Cod and across the country. Joe is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Maria (Demopolos) Wallingford.
A Celebration of Life for Joe will be held at Grace Church of East Dennis on Saturday, December 13 at 11 am. Grace Church is where Joe was dedicated as a baby, enjoyed fellowship during Wednesday evening prayer group, and above all, came to love Jesus. All are welcome to wear their favorite New England sports team apparel to Joe’s Celebration of Life.
In lieu of flowers, it would bring great joy to Joe that people would be supported and cared for by making donations to Sharing Kindness located at 940 Main Street in South Harwich, Massachusetts. For online condolences please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com
