Lila Moore “Missy” Stanton

 It is with deep sorrow that J. Alex Stanton, IV, the brother of Lila Moore Stanton, announces the death of Lila Moore Stanton on October 18, 2025.
Ms. Stanton passed away on October 18, 2025 after a long illness. The Directors of
Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home and Crematory are caring for the family.
The Family will have a Celebration of Life at the Tatum Cemetery in Tatum, South Carolina, at a later time.
Lila Moore Stanton, the daughter of the late J. Alex Stanton, III and the late Virginia Riegel Stanton was born on January 10, 1947.
Lila Moore Stanton went by the name of “Missy” and she most recently lived with her brother and his wife, Betsy H. Stanton in Hartsville, S.C.
Missy graduated from McColl High School and then attended and graduated from Averett College in Danville, Virginia. She next lived in Chapel Hill, N.C. For decades, she worked as a Medical Assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Then for a decade, she lived on Cape Code Massachusetts and was employed in Hospitality Services.
Approximately eight (8) years ago, she moved from Cape Cod to North Myrtle Beach, S.C. (where she lived until she moved to Hartsville in June of 2024).
She enjoyed her family and many friends and her beloved dogs. Missy was a terrific cook and well known for her extraordinary cookies for all occasions.
She is survived by her brother, J. Alex Stanton, IV and his wife, Betsy H. Stanton, along with her nephews, J. Alex Stanton, V, and Hayes K. Stanton. She is also survived by the two (2) children of J. Alex Stanton, V, namely, James Drake Bender Stanton and Catherine Bender Stanton. She is also survived by the three (3) children of Hayes K. Stanton, namely, Miles Kirkland Stanton, Parker Riegel Stanton, and Eloise Hayes Stanton.
