SOUTH YARMOUTH – Amanda McIsaac paced the way en route to the Monomoy girls cross country team’s runner-up finish at the Cape and Islands League championship meet Saturday.
McIsaac, a junior, finished the 5-kilometer course at Dennis-Yarmouth High School in 21:50.80, placing 11th in the girls varsity Lighthouse Division race. Backed by freshman Skyler Orsmond, who finished right behind her — and senior Ella Baum, sophomore Erin Guerard and sophomore Remi (Marie) Schreiner not far behind — the Sharks ran straight to a second-place team finish.
“It feels good that we were able to get it, because that's kind of what we're looking to get,” McIsaac said after the race.
McIsaac’s time was a personal record. Head coach Phil Wright said McIsaac had her “best run of the season today by far.”
McIsaac, who also plays basketball and lacrosse, said it was her second year running cross country.
“I feel like the energy has been really positive this year, which is a really good thing,” she said. “I feel like that’s been really helping everyone.”
