Louise Latimer Savage Pan

Louise Latimer Savage Pan died September 6, 2025 at 11:00 am. She was active in her Quaker Community till the end. She was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on October 15, 1934. She was valedictorian at Waterbury High School. She attended Colby College in Maine where she met her first husband Robert B. Savage. She Graduated first in her class and was soon married thereafter.
Giving up a path in pre-med and becoming a wife and mother. Living first in Boston then in NYC in 1961 moving to Beach Lake in Rural Pennsylvania.
She was an editor of Highlights for Children, later getting her Master’s Degree in Library studies from the University of Scranton. With this degree she took a job in the Wayne County School System starting a bookmobile, where she drove a brand new van to outlying schools in the county.
In 1974 she took a job at the Quaker school “Oakwood” as the head librarian. Here she became officially known at the “Religious Society of Friends.” After 3 years she took the job as head librarian in Pleasantville, NY., where she spent almost 20 years updating and revitalized the small town’s local library. She introduced tapes, music and many orated programs.
She met and married her second husband, Edward Pan. A naturalized Chinese national who left before the communist take over of China.
At retirement the couple moved to the retirement community at Foulkeways in Gwynedd, Pa., where a joyful life participating in many activities including kayaking, dancing, quilt making, tap dancing and pottery. She is remembered by the many friends she made at Foulkeways.
There will be a Quaker Service at Foulkeways October 25, at 2 pm. It is open to all.
She is survived by her oldest son Don Savage, step-son Michael Pan of Long Island, NY and Doreen Case Pan of Arizona, as well as five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
