Our View: Thank You, Once Again, For Helping Neighbors

by The Cape Cod Chronicle

If the arrival of the new year is cause for celebration, it’s also a symbol of uncertainty. Will 2024 see an end to war in Ukraine and Israel, or will new conflicts emerge? Will the nation see stability and prosperity or political unrest? What big stories will dominate the pages of The Chronicle in the next 12 months?

In the ever-changing script of current events we chronicle, there’s a comforting constant: your generosity.

Together, we raised more than $110,000 to benefit the Family Pantry of Cape Cod through our just-concluded holiday Helping Neighbors campaign. While it was shy of the $125,000 goal, the campaign raised enough funds to provide more than 440,000 nutritious meals for Cape Codders in need. Not a bad way to start 2024.

Your generosity is inspiring, but it’s not surprising. Since we launched Helping Neighbors 20 years ago, the holiday campaign has raised more than $1.2 million for the Family Pantry. Combined with our summertime edition of the campaign, which begins its eighth year this July, we’ve raised more than $1.8 million together. That’s an enormous boost in the effort to fight hunger on Cape Cod, but it’s more than that.

It’s proof that we help our neighbors when the chips are down. It’s a reason to be hopeful for the future.
