Robert Riedl

September 17, 2025

Robert (Bob) Riedl died suddenly on August 25, 2025 while working on his home in Brewster where he and his wife Linda lived for over 40 years. He loved being outdoors, puttering around and fixing things, so he passed doing something he loved.
Born in Worcester on May 1, 1942 to Louis and Stella Riedl, Bob was raised in Leicester until his family moved to Harwich in the mid-1960’s. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda; his son, Rob of Newport, VT, his daughter and son-in-law, Joanna and Lars Frederiksen, along with his two bonus grandsons, Wolfgang and Soren Frederiksen, all of San Francisco, CA; his sisters Paula Riedl of Harwich and Georgene Riedl along with her longtime partner Ralph MacKenzie of Brewster. He will be missed and remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob built and was involved in many business enterprises on Cape Cod over the years but he was most proud of launching a national life and health insurance agency in 1985 specializing in long term care: Cobblestone Court Insurance Agency. He was a Charter member and former President of the Yarmouth-Dennis Kiwanis Club, a member of the Mount Horeb Lodge and served on the Board of Appeals for the Town of Brewster.
Bob excelled as a basketball player throughout high school and college and was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.
As a life-long sports fan, he loved the Boston Red Sox and coaching his son in youth baseball and basketball. He was a long-time New England Patriots season ticketholder and was present for five of their Super Bowl appearances.
In 1990, Bob found a new sports passion in the Brewster Whitecaps baseball team. He was a longtime Board member and served as a former President of the organization. Over the course of more than twenty years, he and Linda hosted thirty-eight college players from all over the country. He enjoyed watching his “summer sons” succeed in life, many of whom went on to the “Big Show”. There was always a ticket waiting for him when one of his boys came to play at Fenway Park.
Upon his retirement in 2005, Bob wintered in Ft. Myers, Florida where he made many new and lasting friendships which carried him into a new chapter of a life well-lived.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 2pm - 5pm at The Charm on Main, 2553 Main St. (Rte 6A) Brewster, MA 02631.
In lieu of flowers, Bob would have wanted donations to be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation or The Brewster Whitecaps Baseball Club.
Notes of comfort may be made to Robert’s family at www.chapmanfuneral.com
