At the intersection of Sea and Main Streets in Harwich Port is an incredible shop that you won’t want to miss next time you’re in the area. LEXACO is the premier destination for all things jewelry. Owners Lisa and Ed Guariglia are in the middle of their seventh year in business, and what started out as a traditional design store has evolved into so much more through the years.

“We were like an artisan kind of shop that first year with my own jewelry designs,” Lisa said. “Then Mike Monahan across the street was retiring and closing his shop. He walked in during our second week open to see if we should carry the Cape Cod bracelet. We thought, oh no — we are designers. And Mike said, ‘you will build your brand, Lisa. But you will build it faster with this bracelet.’ It was a life-changing moment for us because it tipped us over into jewelry."

LEXACO has something for everyone. While Ed handles much of the repair work and estate buying, Lisa does much of the selling and designs items of her own. And they stand behind their work, quality and their product.

Ed said, “We have a 100 percent guarantee for manufacturers’ defects or failure, within reason, on products that we sell. Obviously life happens, [but] we help our customers. It is how we ran our business for years. People pay good money for something and they deserve that guarantee. I don’t intend to sell one piece to someone and never see them again. You want repeat business, repeat customers. You really want a friend in this business, and I have a lot of LEXACO friends.”

LEXACO is a wonderland of so many specialties. One of the areas for which they have a knack is procuring and repurposing estate jewelry, which is a sideline that Ed started two years ago. Estate jewelry is pre-owned and could include a grandmother’s old wedding ring, single earrings or even broken items. Clients bring in their items to the Guariglias for review and purchase. Then they either resell items as is or repurpose gems or components of the jewelry in brand new pieces. There are two full cases of estate jewelry on display that are ever-changing and filled with treasure. 

“We love the estate part best because it feels like we are giving things a new life with someone else who is so excited to have it,” Lisa said. “Maybe if a piece doesn’t sell we may harvest out the center diamond, for example. And we use it if someone wants it in an engagement ring or anniversary piece, which gives the client a big discount. It’s really fun.”

In addition to selling the iconic Cape Cod Bracelet, LEXACO specializes in everything from event jewelry to custom engagement rings and nautical lines. The shop sells all formats of classic jewelry and pearls and specializes in sterling silver as well. The shop sells Cape Cod Cutlery knives and other local artisan items that are sprinkled throughout the store. 

LEXACO prides itself on the large selection of men’s items including gunmetal finished chains, woven bracelets from Bali and Hawaiian pendant rings. They also sell chains by the inch, which is rare to find in the area.

“We can make the chains as long or short as you want and we attach clasps,” said Lisa. “We have a whole selection of cool, decorative clasps. We have gunmetal finishes which the guys love. We have the Harwich Mariners in here all the time shopping the chains. It’s really cool.”
