Kathryn Ann Roth
August 13, 2025

Kathryn Ann Roth, born October 3,1934, passed away peacefully August 8, 2025. Born in Amesbury, MA, Kay loved Massachusetts, especially Chatham, where she spent her August summers beginning in the 1960s, and never stopped visiting, even after moving halfway across the country to Little Rock, Arkansas, and then to Winnetka, Illinois, before finally permanently settling in Chatham in 2001. Kay was a dedicated mother, loyal wife, very close to her two older sisters, and a cherished friend to many.
After graduating from Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing, Kay began her career at Mass General Hospital, eventually becoming the Head Nurse of the Operating Room at the Phillips House where she met her devoted husband of 62 years, Irwin (deceased). Throughout her life Kay was an avid reader and found joy working in a local bookstore in Winnetka for many years. Kay’s sense of humor and wry wit kept her and those around her smiling and, at times, shaking their head at her irreverence. She loved sitting on the beach with her friends and family, taking brisk walks, cooking her family’s favorite meals, sipping her drink at her favorite restaurants, and enjoying the companionship of dogs. She loved watching Tom Brady, classic movies, and slapstick sitcoms. Kay is survived by her children Jeff, Betsy (Tim), Greg (Jenny), Suzy (Barry), her sister Jane Hovey, and three granddaughters, Polly, Maddie, and Carly. We will all miss her so very much.
Services will be held Wednesday August 13,2025 at 11:00 am at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham, MA 02633 followed by the interment Ceremony at People’s Cemetery in Chatham.
