Edward Bennett

August 13, 2025

Edward Bennett, 66, of Chatham, MA, passed away peacefully at home on July 26, 2025, surrounded by close friends and family.
Ed lived a full and fearless life. He served in the U.S. Army, spending time stationed in Germany, and later built a career on the water as a commercial fisherman out of Chatham. He was known for going out in weather most wouldn’t dare — stubborn, steady, and always willing to do the hard work. After years at sea, he went on to become a master gas fitter, working at Snow’s until he retired.
He had a sharp wit and a dry, often unexpected sense of humor that stuck with him through everything — even in the hardest times. Ed could make people laugh when they needed it most, and he had a way of making everyone feel like things would be okay. He didn’t say a lot, but when he did, it was usually something worth hearing.
In his free time, Ed loved metal detecting the local beaches and taking his black Labs for walks through Thompson’s Field.
He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Karen Bennett, who passed away in 2012. He is survived by his two sons, Jared and Zachary Bennett; his grandchildren, Isla and Callum, who lit up his world; his parents, Fred and Barbara Bennett; and his sister, Kim Baylis.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at the Chatham VFW on October 4th from 2 to 5 PM. All are welcome to come share stories, raise a glass, and remember him in the way he would’ve wanted — with laughter, good company, and no fuss.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Edward’s name to the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod.
