BREWSTER – Town officials announced a temporary closure of Paines Creek Wednesday morning due to high levels of fecal bacteria. As of Thursday afternoon, Paines Creek reopened after additional testing cleared the area for water activities.
The notice on Wednesday advised residents and visitors to refrain from swimming in the area until further notice. The department of natural resources had already re-tested the location and continued to test the beach for bacteria counts.
Barnstable County water samplers conduct beach samplings in the summer months to analyze the fecal bacteria levels.
