Ann Gertrude (McAloon) Mador
August 05, 2025

In Chatham, July 22, 2025, Ann Gertrude (McAloon) Mador, wife of Deacon Joseph Mador, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, at the age of 88, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on October 18, 1936, in Dighton, MA, Ann was the daughter of the late Frank and Gertrude (Merriam) McAloon, and she was raised in Taunton, MA.
She attended Taunton Public Schools and was a 1954 graduate of St. Mary’s High School, also in Taunton. As a Holy Union sister, she served as a parochial school teacher until 1960. Then choosing a different path, she became a public-school teacher in Newburyport, MA, until 1964. She received her B.S. in Education from Salem State College in June 1964, and then brought her teaching skills to Raynham, MA, where she taught at the Lillie B. Merrill Elementary School, alongside her sister Mary, until 1967.
She married Joe Mador, whom she met through her brother Joe, on August 6, 1966, at St. Joseph’s Church in Taunton, MA, and gave birth to Jane Alice in 1967 and Robert Joseph in 1970. She resided in Raynham, MA, from 1968 until 1989. She and Joe then relocated to Montvale, NJ, for a work opportunity for Joe until 1992, and then made their summer home in Chatham, MA, their permanent home. They then spent winters at their home in The Villages, FL, from 2006 until 2015.
Ann was active in the Catholic Church her entire life. She was a religious education teacher and a eucharistic minister at both St. Ann’s Parish in Raynham and at Holy Redeemer Parish in Chatham. She also was active in Respect for Life and prison ministry at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility. She and Joe also attended daily Mass at Holy Redeemer.
Ann loved many things, including: baking, cooking and grocery shopping; hosting holidays; sewing; chicken fingers, hot turkey dinners, lasagna, ice cream and all things chocolate; shopping on QVC and at the Christmas Tree Shops; eating out; rides in the car, golf cart and on the boat; the color pink; puzzles, playing cards and reading; silly adventures with her sister Mary; fun with Raynham, Chatham, and Florida neighbors; cruise vacations; and the birds, chipmunks, rose and hydrangea bushes in her yard. She also loved to do laundry and was an expert stain remover. Most importantly, she loved spending time with and bragging about her grandchildren and loving on her grand-dogs.
Ann was a beautiful, gentle, loving and accepting soul. She was deeply religious and had a strong devotion to our Blessed Mother. She had an extraordinary gift for truly listening and always giving the most positive, caring and faith-filled guidance. She lived for kindness and performed daily acts of quiet generosity. She gave the most amazing hugs and could sit for hours giving and receiving back scratches and hair brushing. She had a deep love for her husband and family and led a life of service to those around her who needed love and faith.
Besides her husband Joe, Ann is survived by her daughter Jane (Robert) Moran of Franklin, MA, and her son Robert (Cheryl) Mador of Harwich, MA, as well as her grandchildren Catherine and Jack Moran and Ryan and Julia Mador, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Mary LeVasseur, brothers Francis, Robert and Joseph McAloon and father-in-law, Joseph Mador.
Her visitation will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home, located at 87 Crowell Road, Chatham, MA, on August 14, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 at Holy Redeemer Church, located at 57 Highland Ave, Chatham, MA. Livestream will be available at https://www.holyredeemerchatham.org
