Jeffrey von Loesecke Hayes

Jeffrey von Loesecke Hayes, age 80, died suddenly on June 28 of heart failure.
A resident of Brewster for more than 50 years, he was a member of the Historic Commission, an avid sailor of his beloved wooden catboat, Cimba, and a gardener renowned for his notable garlic crop.
Mr. Hayes had a distinguished career in television and movie production. His television credits included 14 years as executive producer of “Law and Order.” He is fondly remembered by the many people he mentored and promoted to positions of leadership, and was known in the community as a man who trained many women to be producers when that was uncommon.
His feature film credits among others included “Dirty Dancing,” which proved to be a cultural phenomenon. He loved movies, and after retirement he continued to follow new films via the screeners he received from the Producers and Directors Guilds.
His many friends remember his love of life and adventure, parties, and fast driving, as well as his unfailing humor and generosity.
Jeffrey Hayes was born in Boston, grew up in Springfield, MA and graduated from Brown University.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Regina McDonnell Hayes, his daughter Jocelyn Hayes-Simpson, son Matthew Hayes, and five grandchildren he adored.
