Minding Your Business- Chatham Pottery

It doesn’t get more iconic Cape Cod than Chatham Pottery. For nearly four decades the landmark pottery shop has been a go-to destination for visitors and locals alike for high-quality stoneware and local artisan gifts. Owner and Chatham native Jade Schuyler bought the business several years back from her mother and has evolved the pottery shop into so much more. Inspired by the beauty of Cape Cod, Chatham Pottery offers one-of-a-kind works of art crafted to last generations.
“I appreciate the longevity of this business,” Schuyler said. “The most gratifying thing for me is that our customers just love coming into the store and buying something that they will love and cherish and can possibly hand down to their grandkids.”
And boy is there a selection of items to choose from at Chatham Pottery. Some of the most popular items include lamps, platters, mugs, dinnerware, bakeware and even birdbaths. Custom wedding platters and pizza stones have been a great success over the years as a one-of-a-kind gift. Many of Chatham Pottery’s most beloved designs are the mainstay hydrangea pattern as well as the dragonfly collection, morning glory, seafoam pattern and wildlife designs. The shop also features unique decals (hand-drawn by Schuyler’s husband Paul) like fish, sharks and local lighthouses.
“Our main line is the hydrangeas,” Schuyler said. “We are constantly doing tests, too, like the seafoam line which came out a few years ago. I am now starting to do some pink hydrangea tests to see if I can get some more pink and purply colors.”
Aside from the mainstay collections, Chatham Pottery has a huge selection of specialty items in their shop that you simply will not find in any other local store.
“It was always our mission to create a true artisan gift shop, not just pottery,” Schuyler said. “So people can come in and buy anything from a kids’ sticker book to a lamp! I really pride myself on finding items that other people don’t have.”
Some of the incredible artisans featured all throughout Chatham Pottery include Austin Designs from Martha’s Vineyard (soothing herbal handmade heating/cooling bags), Mackenzie’s Fisherman from New Hampshire (scrubs, soaps and lotions), Lighthouse Keepers out of Yarmouth (pancake mixes), Runamok Maple from Vermont (bourbon barrel-aged maple syrup and maple syrup with sparkles!), Skordo out of Maine (handmade small batch spices and herb blends) and Wozz Kitchen Creations from New Hampshire (artisanal condiments dips, dressings and spreads). There are so many more products to discover at Chatham Pottery, including jewelry artists, children’s coloring books, hand towels and more.
