Circus Smirkus High Flying Performance
by William F. Galvin
For the second year in a row Circus Smirkus drew large crowds for its four shows on the grounds of Monomoy Regional High School, raising money for the Harwich Children’s Fund.
The circus rolled into town last week and held two shows on both Tuesday and Wednesday. The shows under the big top tent were a great success, according to Angelina Chalaka, president of the Harwich Children’s Fund.
This year’s theme was “Game On,” and the teenage cast was once again at the top of its game. Aerial performances and acrobatics were colorful and spectacular. The skits were fast-moving and entertaining, and the cast juggled multiple performances flawlessly.
This is the second year that the Vermont-based circus training camp performed in Harwich. Both were major fundraisers for the Children’s Fund, said Chilaka.
The mission of the fund, operated by retired teachers, school administrators and community volunteers, is to assist needy students and families in the Monomoy Regional School District.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
