HARWICH – Leadership comes naturally to Trevor Ryone.
After shouldering the responsibility of being the Cape Cod Tech boys basketball team’s primary ball handler the past two seasons, Ryone couldn’t feel more comfortable leading the Crusaders offense.
He looked right at home Monday night, when he scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed six rebounds to help Cape Tech roll past Sturgis East to earn a 78-34 victory in the team’s home opener.
“It was high energy and high motor all of the time,” Ryone said of the team’s effort. “We’re unselfish — we’re always looking for the open player — and we mesh really well together.”
As unselfish as Ryone is, Cape Tech coach Brent Warren said he wishes the senior from Brewster would call his own number even more.
“I’ve been telling him, ‘You’ve got to stop being so unselfish. Take it to them,’” the coach said.
Ryone said he approached his final season with a focus on improving his 3-point shooting and his defense. As for goals? He just wants to leave the program on a winning note.
“I just want to win the [Mayflower] league,” Ryone said. “That would be a nice way to end my career.”
