Young Fans Score A Storytime With Brewster Whitecaps

BREWSTER – Whether it’s rounding the bases in front of hundreds of fans or giving back to the community, the Whitecaps have been an integral part of Brewster summers on and off the field for well over three decades.
On Friday, outfielder Adam Magpoc, pitcher Ryan Piech and assistant coach Zach Donahue were joined by President Luke Dillon at the Brewster Ladies’ Library for a baseball-themed storytime.
Magpoc and Piech took turns reading “Dino-Baseball” by Lisa Wheeler to a packed house. Children of all ages were invited to attend, participating in both the storytime and a follow-up craft.
The Whitecaps players are known to make appearances around town, especially for philanthropic events. This Saturday, July 26, the town will host a Brewster Whitecaps meet-and-greet at the Sea Camps Bay Property Arts Center from 10 to 11 a.m. Visitors will get the opportunity to meet the players, coaches and the team’s new mascot, Cappy.
After Magpoc and Piech finished the story, Cappy joined the audience as a surprise guest, taking time to pose for photos with the young fans in the crowd.
Following photos and autographs, children were able to complete a craft: stitching red string through a paper plate, making their own baseball to take home.
The players said they are grateful for the opportunity to play on the Whitecaps. Dillon noted that Magpoc holds the lead for stolen bases in the league currently.
Earlier this month it was announced that 22 prior and current Whitecaps players had been drafted to the major league. It’s clear that wherever they go, Whitecaps players will always have a home in Brewster.
