Susanne Dolan Reney Taylor

Susanne Dolan Reney Taylor passed away peacefully in her home in Chatham, MA, after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her creativity and artistic excellence, but most of all for her boundless love and devotion, tireless energy, sterling character and strength of spirit.
She was born in Worcester, MA on February 26, 1957 to Thomas Francis Reney, Jr. and Josephine Kelley Dolan Reney and grew up on Brighton Road. She graduated from Emmanuel College in 1979 and worked in New York as an advertising account executive for a number of advertising agencies and Time Magazine, and later for an ad agency and bank in Austin, TX and for the Corning Glass Museum in Corning, NY as marketing manager.
Susanne met her future husband, Kenneth McNeill Taylor, Jr., while in New York, and they were married on June 2, 1984 in Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham. They moved around the country for his work, living in Texas, upstate New York, North Carolina, Chicago, Long Island, La Jolla, California and Manhattan. Throughout her life, Susanne was deeply connected to Cape
Cod, spending every summer on the Cape, first in Eastham, followed by Dennis Port, Harwich Port and finally Chatham since 1997. Since 2016, she also maintained a home in Delray Beach, Florida near her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.
Susanne was an accomplished painter, training with Bruno Surdo and Mike Chelich at the School of Representational Art in Chicago and with Judy Kudlow at her studio in Harlem. Her paintings have enriched many lives and are featured in many homes from Cape Cod to Florida. Her work is renowned for beautifully precise representations of hydrangeas, lilies, and bowls of fruit conveying her innate sense of color, and crashing waves of green, blue and foamy white expressing her love of the ocean. She was a member of the Copley Society of Art in Boston and is represented by Tree’s Place art gallery in Orleans. On the Cape, Susanne was an active member of Stage Harbor Yacht Club, and Cape Cod National and Eastward Ho golf clubs. In Florida she was a member of the Country Club of Florida and the Gulf Stream Bath and Tennis Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Kelley (Jason Baum), her two sons, Dan (Julia Streuli) and Dave (Tori Powell), and two grandchildren, Charlie and Josephine Baum.
A wake is planned for Thursday, June 26 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road in Chatham. A mass of Christian burial will take place at Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham on Friday, June 27 at 10:00 am, followed by burial service at Seaside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests charitable donations in Susanne’s memory to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, in particular GYN Oncology/Dr. Carolyn Krasner and Alison Hamel NP. The family expresses its eternal gratitude to Dr. Krasner and Alison Hamel and the entire team at Dana Farber for their tireless efforts on Susanne’s behalf over the past 6 years.
