Our View: Save A Mug For Us

It might be hard to believe, but something as simple as a cup of coffee can change a life.
We are happy to report this week that the Grateful Mug has opened in Harwich Port, bringing to fruition a great idea that’s been brewing for some time. The cafe, set up in the chamber of commerce’s visitor information center, is a nonprofit staffed by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. And it’s pretty clearly a venti success already.
Congratulations to Shana Grogan and others who conceived of the idea, initially as the Special Friends Cafe, and to those who came together to provide the cafe a home and to meet its start-up needs. We also love the fact that traditional restaurants in Harwich Port didn’t resist the Grateful Mug as competition, but have embraced it as another great reason for people to visit the village.
When you stop by for a coffee or a sweet treat, know that you’re also helping local folks get the vocational skills they need to thrive.
Make ours black with two sugars.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
