John Frank Ormento, affectionately known as Johnny, 66, of Harwich MA, died peacefully in his home on April 27, 2025, after enduring 4 years with brain cancer metastasized from esophageal cancer. Born July 3,1958 in New York, NY, son of Thomas Ormento and Patricia (Livorsi) Ormento. Johnny spent the first 20 years of his life in Elmhurst, NY and Hallandale, FL. The next 20 years he enjoyed his adult life living in Coconut Grove, FL and Miami Beach, FL. There he worked and played in the night club business, including his own night club, Frankie and Johnny’s. Family was an integral part of his life and never far away. He then moved to Harwich, MA to work at Pleasant Bay Village Motel. He said he fell in love with the Cape as soon as he crossed the bridge. Johnny welcomed many people to the motel and made many friendships. His passion was baking, and Johnny was an excellent baker. He never went to a doctor’s appointment or visited a neighbor without his signature cookies or cheesecake.
Johnny is survived by his brother Frank Ormento and his sister Carmella DiMatteo (Tony) and his nieces, Patricia Osborne (Ryan) and Rose DiMatteo (Matt Engel) and nephews Thomas DiMatteo (Leah Garrow), Sam Ormento (Alahah Lorusso) and James Altman (Ashley), his grand-niece, Lilah DiMatteo. He also is survived by his Aunt Fran (John) and many cousins.
Johnny leaves his Cape family: Judy Gamsey, Noah Gamsey (Andrea Howard), Sienna (Parker) and Alayna Gamsey, Josh and Cheryl Gamsey and Adin Hultin. He leaves many friends on the Cape and in Florida who love him dearly, especially Mary Lyttle. Johnny leaves a wonderful neighborhood and all his neighbors who are dear to him.
Johnny has 3 dogs, Mitzi, Sharla and Eve, who were recently adopted by his friends, Joe and Joyce Nemoga. In thinking about Johnny, please consider making a donation to his favorite organization, the Animal Rescue League of Boston- Brewster Shelter 3981 Main St (Rt 6A), East Brewster, MA 02631.
Johnny wanted people to listen to 3 songs by Dianna Ross and think of him: “I Wouldn’t Change a Thing,” “Remember Me” and “Thank You.” In his words, “everyone will know why when they hear them.”
